American Estimate Hub

Sitework estimates from cut and fill to the last shrub.

Sitework and landscape takeoffs: cut and fill by CY, paving by SF, curb by LF, utility trenching by LF, planting, and irrigation.

Sitework starts below the surface. We quantify clearing, stripping, cut and fill by CY from the grading plans, base courses, and paving sections, along with curb and gutter, sidewalks, and striping. Underground storm, sanitary, and water utilities are measured by pipe size and LF, with trenching, bedding, and backfill and structures counted by type.

Landscape and hardscape scope is taken off from the planting and irrigation plans: trees and shrubs by count and size, sod and seed by SF, mulch by CY, irrigation heads and piping, and fencing and site furnishings, organized under Divisions 31, 32, and 33.

CSI MasterFormat divisions

  • Division 31 — Earthwork
  • Division 32 — Exterior Improvements
  • Division 33 — Utilities

What we quantify

  • Clearing and topsoil stripping (SF / CY)
  • Cut and fill earthwork (CY)
  • Aggregate base (SF / TON)
  • Asphalt and concrete paving (SF / TON)
  • Curb and gutter (LF)
  • Storm, sanitary, and water piping (LF)
  • Utility trenching and backfill (LF / CY)
  • Manholes, inlets, and structures (EA)
  • Trees, shrubs, and plantings (EA)
  • Sod, seed, and mulch (SF / CY)

What the estimate accounts for

  • Swell and compaction: Bank, loose, and compacted volumes are distinguished, with swell and shrink factors you can adjust for site soils.
  • Trench sections: Trench depth, width, bedding, and backfill follow the utility details so excavation volume matches the pipe run.
  • Paving sections: Each pavement section is quantified layer by layer, from subgrade preparation to surface course.
  • Erosion control: Silt fence, inlet protection, and construction entrances are taken off from the erosion control plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do you calculate cut and fill?

Yes. When existing and proposed grades are provided, we calculate cut and fill volumes by CY and note the method and any soil factors applied.

Can you take off underground utilities?

Yes. Storm, sanitary, and water lines are measured by size and material in LF, with structures, fittings, and trench volumes.

Do you estimate landscaping and irrigation?

Yes. Plantings are counted by species and size, turf and mulch are measured by area and volume, and irrigation is taken off from the irrigation plan.
