American Estimate Hub

HVAC estimates measured by the pound and the foot.

HVAC takeoffs: equipment from schedules, ductwork by LF and LB, diffusers and grilles, refrigerant and hydronic piping, and controls.

HVAC estimates combine equipment, air distribution, and piping. We count rooftop units, air handlers, furnaces, split systems, fans, and terminal units from the equipment schedules, and take off ductwork by size and LF before converting it to weight by gauge.

Diffusers, registers, grilles, dampers, flex duct, duct insulation, refrigerant lines, condensate, and hydronic piping are each quantified. Controls and test and balance are noted as separate scopes so nothing is assumed by another trade.

CSI MasterFormat divisions

  • Division 23 — Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

What we quantify

  • HVAC equipment by type (EA)
  • Rectangular ductwork (LF / LB)
  • Round and spiral duct (LF)
  • Flexible duct (LF)
  • Diffusers, registers, and grilles (EA)
  • Fire and volume dampers (EA)
  • Duct insulation and wrap (SF)
  • Refrigerant and condensate piping (LF)
  • Hydronic piping by size (LF)
  • Thermostats and controls (EA)

What the estimate accounts for

  • Duct weight by gauge: Rectangular duct is converted to pounds using the gauge appropriate for its size and pressure class.
  • Fittings and transitions: Elbows, transitions, and takeoffs are counted from the layout because they carry much more fabrication labor than straight duct.
  • Equipment rigging: Rooftop units and heavy equipment are flagged for crane or rigging needs.
  • Controls and balancing: Controls and test and balance are listed as separate scopes so responsibility is clear.

Who orders it

  • Mechanical and HVAC contractors
  • Sheet metal shops
  • General contractors
  • Home builders

Frequently asked questions

Do you calculate duct weight?

Yes. We measure duct by LF and size and convert to weight by gauge, which many sheet metal contractors use for fabrication pricing.

Can you estimate residential HVAC systems?

Yes. We count equipment, measure trunk and branch duct runs, and count registers, returns, and line sets from the mechanical plans.

Is the mechanical estimate separate from plumbing?

Yes. HVAC is organized under Division 23 and plumbing under Division 22, and each can be ordered on its own.
